SOLARNOVA – SCOOP PROJECT
HIGH-CONCENTRATION PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEM ON BUILDING FACADES
With an international patent, Solarnova is the sunscreen system with vertical strips to produce photovoltaic energy and heat for domestic hot water: it works at high concentration and uses high-performance cells. This special outdoor sunscreen simultaneously meets three needs: the external shielding of solar energy, the production of photovoltaic energy and the production of domestic hot water from solar heating. Without direct radiation the mirrors align themselves vertically, protecting themselves from hail and allowing the diffuse radiation to light the rooms. With a lightweight, cost-competitive structure, the Solarnova system integrates perfectly and attractively in the building facades, satisfying regulations on photovoltaic and heating installations for all types of housing units. Solarnova won the Italian Ministry of Economic Development's "Industry 2015" contract with the SCOOP Project, in collaboration with top-level partners including Enel, Enea, CESI, STMicroelectronics, universities and research centres. The project's goals include producing low-cost, high-performance concentrating photovoltaic systems, thereby promoting Italian competitiveness in this specific sector.
